Wow. Do I have a slight soft spot for the Ghostbusters movies (excluding the random women one)? Yes. But, that doesn’t mean that this movie wasn’t amazing.
Ok, let’s review this the best possible way without spoiling it because no one really likes spoilers. Let’s start with the new ghost, he is a bit scary to be honest. There were a few jump scares that I will admit I did jump. If you read my review on the trailer, you know that the ghost had something to do with fear, and yes it does. The ghost’s ‘power’ is that it sends shivers down a persons spine until they are eventually completely frozen in fear.
Let’s talk characters. Phoebe has amazing character development, compared to Afterlife where we were just starting to get to know her and how she’s the perfect replica of Egon, even if she is his granddaughter. In Frozen Empire, we get to see her struggle at being as smart as she is at only 15 years old. She does start to get close with Ray as they try to solve problems together along with Podcast. Yes, Ray and Winston are a huge part of the movie, we still see Peter, he’s just more of a special appearance.
For the most part, it’s only the four Ghostbusters at a time going to catch the ghosts but what’s fun about Frozen Empire, is that there are more than that. We get the engineering core, with their own Ghostbusters logo and everything. Of course throughout the movie we have the mayor trying to shut down the Ghostbusters and destroy the Firehouse.
Alright I won’t say too much more. I will say though, this one felt like there was ‘magic’ as opposed to the others. It was different but, it was still fun and added a sense of humor. My favorite part was definitely when you see the old generation and the new generation standing together, you’ll know what I’m talking about when you see it.
